Note Map

Appropriation

This image, painted by Michelangelo on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, was originally created to display god giving life to Adam. New Belgium brewery bricolages the image to depict god toasting a beer with Adam. In addition, text is used much like Barbra Kruger uses it. The slogans "Follow your Folly" and "Enjoy the Good Life" suggests a relaxing and playful mood much different from the original  mood of the image. To enhance the jolly spirit of the add,  air balloons are added and David is given a casual and sporty outfit to consume his beer in!

Icon Weezy

Praised as the most influential and talented contemporary rap artist, Lil' Wayne has created himself into an Icon. This icon stands for individuality, strength, expression, family, and money. Everything that Wayne deems important, his image communicates directly to the viewer. His body language proves his tough, and nonchalant attitude towards music, fans, and critics. His bling and diamond encrusted teeth prove his abundance of money. The tattoos that cover his body speak to his ties to his hometown, family, crew, and his music. The "C" between his eyes is for his mother Cita and his last name Carter. The Fleur-de-lis also tattooed on his face is the symbol of New Orleans, his home. Tattooed across his stomach are the words "Band Bang" the letters "MOB", standing for money over bitches. Many images of Wayne show him shirtless displaying a body covered in tattoo art. This presentation allows for Weezy to tell a story with his image. He even uses other iconic images to enhance his own for example, one tattoo on his arm is of a Rolls Royce logo. This well known symbol communicates wealth and class, telling the viewer that Weezy himself must have those things. I am definitely sold on this image. I look at this photograph and see a hard, independent, and unorthodox artist that loves money, marijuana, and his mom because that is exactly what he wants me to see.
